چکیده

Powerful techniques for modelling and rendering tridimensional organic shapes, like human body, are today available for applications in many fields such as special effects, ergonomic simulation or medical visualization, just to name a few. These techniques, combined with Content Based Image Retrieval (CBIR), are proving to be very useful also to archaeologists and anthropologists committed to reconstruct the aspect of the inhabitants of historically relevant sites like Pompei. This paper presents an integrated system to provide 3D FAcial reConstruction from anciEnt Skulls (FACES). FACES, starting from radiological analysis of an ancient skull and a database of modern individuals of the same area/gender/age, produces a tridimensional facial model compatible to the anthropological and craniometrical features of the original skull. Finally, we compare FACES peculiarities to the most used facial reconstruction methodologies available today. r 2004 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Ultra-Fast Image Reconstruction of Tomosynthesis Mammography Using GPU

Digital Breast Tomosynthesis (DBT) is a technology that creates three dimensional (3D) images of breast tissue. Tomosynthesis mammography detects lesions that are not detectable with other imaging systems. If image reconstruction time is in the order of seconds, we can use Tomosynthesis systems to perform Tomosynthesis-guided Interventional procedures. This research has been designed to study u...

Facial Image Retrieval Based on Eigenfaces and Semantic Features

In this research ,we develop a facial image retrieval computational model for the problem of facial images retrieval by integrating content-based image retrieval (CBIR) techniques and face recognition techniques(FERET) , with the verbal description of the semantic features of the facial image . Eigenfaces is applied to extract the characteristic feature images of the human face images. One hund...

Face Detection and Modeling for Recognition

Face Detection and Modeling for Recognition By Rein-Lien Hsu Face recognition has received substantial attention from researchers in biometrics, computer vision, pattern recognition, and cognitive psychology communities because of the increased attention being devoted to security, man-machine communication, content-based image retrieval, and image/video coding. We have proposed two automated re...

Single-view-based 3D facial reconstruction method robust against pose variations

The 3D Morphable Model (3DMM) and the Structure from Motion (SfM) methods are widely used for 3D facial reconstruction from 2D single-view or multiple-view images. However, model-based methods suffer from disadvantages such as high computational costs and vulnerability to local minima and head pose variations. The SfM-based methods require multiple facial images in various poses. To overcome th...

Computer-aided facial reconstruction using skulls

The ability to determine the identity of a skull found at a crime scene is of critical importance to the law enforcement community. Traditional clay-based methods attempt to reconstruct the face so as to enable identification of the deceased by members of the general public. However, these reconstructions lack consistency from practitioner to practitioner and it has been shown that the human re...
